How to get a personal AI agent, in about 10 minutes
What a personal AI agent is, what it can do for you, and how to get your own on Telegram in about 10 minutes, with no technical setup.

A personal AI agent is an assistant you text, like a friend in your chat list. It remembers what you tell it, does real work for you, and keeps going when your laptop is closed. With HostNest, a team of Claude agents, you can have your own in about 10 minutes, and you don't need to be technical.
This guide is for anyone who has seen what agents can do and thought: I want one. It covers what an agent is, what it can do for you, and how to get yours.
What is a personal AI agent?
It's an AI that lives in Telegram as a contact, with its own computer that stays on. You may know ChatGPT or Claude: you type, it answers, and when you close the window, it stops. An agent is different in three ways:
- It remembers you. Tell it about your work, your family or your plans once, and it keeps that.
- It does things, not just answers. It can sort a pile of files into a spreadsheet, keep your lists, or write a draft for you to check.
- It keeps working when you don't. It can send you a summary every morning, remind you on Friday, or check something every week.
You talk to it the way you'd text a person: a message, a photo, a document, a question.
What can a personal agent do for you?
Whatever you'd hand to a helper who never forgets. Some jobs you could give yours, in the words you'd type:
- "Keep a list of invoices I send you and remind me on Fridays which are unpaid."
- "Turn these 40 supplier PDFs into one spreadsheet."
- "Every Friday, summarise what my three competitors posted this week."
- "Draft a proposal from my notes on this call."
- A morning plan for the day, with what needs you first.
At home it works the same way. One user describes the agent he and his wife share: "We talk to it on telegram in a group chat and it keeps track of all of our grocery and shopping lists, to do lists, it gives us weather outlooks in the morning and evening, remembers our schedule and calendar".
Two people who use HostNest show the range. Agents build a racing driver's website and run his media; he isn't technical. And a marketplace shop went from 3 mirrors a month, to 3 a week, to 20 a day: with agents, work that took hours or days took minutes, and the owner got back to making mirrors.
And what it won't do, so you know before you start:
- It doesn't come connected to your apps. It connects them when you ask, usually with your own login.
- It doesn't know your life or business on day one. You teach it, and it keeps what you teach.
- It doesn't act behind your back. Your agents check with you before anything goes out or costs money, unless you tell them they don't need to.
How does it work?
Three parts work together:
- A Telegram chat. That's where you talk to your agent, from your phone or computer.
- A private computer that stays on. Your agent lives on its own server, so it keeps working when your laptop is closed. With HostNest, it's your own server in the EU, in Germany or Finland.
- Claude, the AI it thinks with. Your agent runs on Anthropic's Claude, signed in to your own paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Ultra or Team). If you don't have one yet, that's the first thing to get.
HostNest puts the three together for you: the server, the agent and its wiring come ready when you sign up.
What do you need before you start?
Three things, so nothing stops you halfway:
- A paid Claude plan: Pro, Max, Ultra or Team. Your agent thinks with Claude, signed in to your own account. The free Claude plan isn't enough. If you don't have a paid plan yet, get one first, at claude.ai.
- Telegram on your phone, with an account. That's where you'll talk to your agent.
- A card for the free week. Nothing is charged for 7 days.
How do you get your own agent?
Sign up on HostNest. It takes about 10 minutes, and most of that is your server being built:
- Make your account. The quickest way is Continue with Google: one tap, no password, no code. With an email instead, you choose a password, and we send you a 6-digit code to type in. If it isn't there within a minute, check spam. The code lasts 10 minutes, and you can ask for a new one on the page.
- Start your free week. A card is needed, and nothing is charged for 7 days. Tick the box that says you understand when the first charge comes, then start the trial. We email you 3 days before the trial ends, and you can cancel in Billing.
- Connect Telegram. Tap Open Telegram and tap Start. Then tap Create my bot, then Create, and come back: the page moves on by itself. On a computer, scan the QR code with your phone's camera instead. The bot is yours.
- Sign in to Claude. First your server is built, in about 3 to 5 minutes. Meanwhile, read the four rules for keeping your data safe and tick the box under them. Then you sign in on Claude's own page. Claude shows you a code. Copy it, go back to the HostNest page, and paste it. About a minute later, your agent is awake.
- Say hi. Open Telegram and say hi to your bot. Your agent introduces itself, then asks a few questions to get to know you: whether it's for your personal life, your work or a mix, which city you're in, and what takes up your time.
Signup starts at hostnest.ai.
What should you try first?
Start small, so you can see how it works:
- Tell it what you do, and what fills your week.
- Ask it to remind you of something tomorrow morning.
- Send it a document or a photo and ask about it. A receipt, a letter, a page of notes.
If you've used ChatGPT or Claude before, you can also paste in what they already know about you, so your agent doesn't start from zero. Then give it one job that comes back every week, like a Friday summary.
Do you need to be technical?
No. Your first bot takes a few taps in Telegram, then you paste one code from your Claude sign-in. After that, you just talk to it. When you want something new, like a connection to your calendar, you ask your agent, and it sets it up with you.
What does it cost?
There's a 7-day free trial, then one subscription for the whole team. You also need your own paid Claude plan, which you pay to Anthropic. If you add more agents later, each with its own job, the subscription stays the same.
Is it private?
Your agent's server is yours, in the EU. HostNest doesn't read it: our access opens only when you open a support session, and it closes itself. The server is backed up every day, and backups are kept for 7 days. When your plan ends, your server and its backups are deleted 7 days later. Whether Anthropic may train on your chats is your own Claude setting.
Can you build one yourself instead?
Yes, if you like setting things up. Open-source agents such as OpenClaw and Hermes Agent connect to Telegram. You rent a server, create a bot with Telegram's BotFather, install the agent, connect it to a model, lock it so only you can message it, and then keep it updated and backed up. Telegram's own warning about the bot's token applies to every setup: "Keep your token secure and store it safely, it can be used by anyone to control your bot."
If you'd rather skip all of that, that's what HostNest is for.
