Cold emails getting no replies? Let an AI agent find a reason to write

Cold emails go unanswered when they could go to anyone. An AI agent brings you five businesses each morning, each with a reason to write and a draft. You send.

Cold emails go unanswered when they could have gone to anyone. Give each one a real reason to write now, something the business just did, and have an AI agent do that research every morning. It brings you five businesses and a draft for each; you read them, change what you want, and send them yourself. The quickest way to get the agent is HostNest, set up for you in about 10 minutes; or use the steps below with an agent of your own.

Why do my cold emails get no replies?

A cold email gets no reply when nothing in it is about the person reading it. Writing more of them doesn't fix that. What fixes it is the research before writing: who looks like your best customer, and why now. The "why now" is something you can see and date: a job they just posted, something they launched, an announcement. Put it in the first line.

What does the agent do each morning?

Every weekday at 8:00 your time, the agent brings you five businesses that look like your best customer, in Telegram. Each comes with:

  • the business and its website, and the person to write to if their own site names one;
  • one real reason to write to them this week, with the link;
  • a short first message that opens with that reason.

It keeps a list, so it never suggests the same business twice, and it notes who you wrote to and who replied.

Don't have an AI agent yet?

The quickest way is HostNest, a team of Claude agents. You sign up yourself, and the rest comes ready: your own server in the EU (a computer that's always on), the agent, and its wiring. It takes about 10 minutes, most of it the server being built:

  1. Account: your email (we send you a 6-digit code) or Google.
  2. Free trial: 7 days free.
  3. Telegram: a few taps create your bot. The bot is yours.
  4. Claude: while your server is built, you read four safety rules. Then you sign in to your paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Ultra or Team) and paste back one code.
  5. Live: open your agent in Telegram and send it the message below.

After that, the upkeep is handled for you: updates install themselves overnight, a failed one rolls back on its own, and the server is backed up daily. Its 8:00 check survives restarts and updates. Get your agent on HostNest

Do I need to code? No. You talk to your agents in Telegram. How long does it take? About 10 minutes, most of it the server being built. Will it do things without asking? It checks with you before anything goes out or costs money, unless you tell it it doesn't need to. Is my stuff safe? It runs on your own private server in the EU, with your own Claude login, and it's backed up daily.

Already running an agent of your own? The steps below work on any agent that can keep a daily check.

How do I set it up?

  1. Tell your agent who your best customer is: what they do, where, how big, and what they need from you. Add what you sell, in one line.
  2. Send it the message below.
  3. It sets itself a check for every weekday at 8:00.
  4. Each morning, read the five. Reply to change a draft, or say "skip".
  5. Send the ones you like from your own email.

What message do I send my agent?

Copy this, fill in the two lines in brackets, and send it to your agent:

TEXT
You're my sales researcher. Every weekday at 8:00 my time, bring me five businesses that look like my best customer.
My best customer: [what they do, where, how big, what they need].
What I sell: [one line].
For each business, give me: its name and website; the person to write to, if their own site names one; and one real reason to write to them this week (something they posted, launched, hired for or announced), with the link.
Then draft a first message of four to six sentences. Open with that reason, say in one line how I can help, ask one easy question, and end with a line that says they can simply tell me no.
Don't send anything; I'll send what I like. Only use contact details the business publishes itself. Never guess or buy addresses.
Keep a list of every business you've suggested so you never repeat one, and note who I wrote to and who replied.
Set this up as a check that runs every weekday at 8:00.

What does a morning look like?

An example, with made-up businesses:

5 for today. 1. A dental clinic in Leeds, 8 staff: posted a job for a receptionist yesterday (link). Draft: "Saw you're hiring a receptionist. When the phones are that busy, missed calls cost you patients..." 2. A physio practice in York: opened a second location this month (link).

Four more follow the same way.

What won't the agent do?

  • It won't send anything. You send. If you later want it to send from your email after your yes, that connection is built on request with your own login; how to let an AI agent handle your email covers the permissions.
  • It won't buy lists, guess addresses or collect private data. It reads public pages, and some sites block it, so a morning can bring fewer than five.
  • It checks with you before anything goes out or costs money, unless you tell it it doesn't need to.

What rules apply to cold email?

The rules are yours to follow, and they differ by country. In the US, the FTC's CAN-SPAM guide says every commercial email needs a way to opt out and your postal address, and business-to-business email gets no exception. Elsewhere, check your own country's rules. The draft's "tell me no" line is a start, not the whole of it.
